Domplatz / Domstraße
There are documents to prove that Domstrasse (Cathedral Street), located in the old city, has been in existence since 1750. Its present name dates back to 1888. Most of the buildings along Domstrasse were erected after 1846 at the sites of former "collegiate houses," in which the clergymen from the nearby monasteries lived and which were often surrounded by gardens. In the 16th century, the collegiate house bearing the name Zum Marienbild (Image of the Virgin Mary), for example, was the home of Hennig Göde, who had made a name for himself as a scholar of jurisprudence, rector of Erfurt University and canon at Marienstift (Collegiate Church of Saint Mary). Domplatz (Cathedral Square), which adjoins Domstrasse, is lined by further historical buildings, such as Grüne Apotheke (Green Pharmacy) (18th century) and Haus Zur Hohen Lilie (High Lily House) (1538).
